FAQs
Do I need any previous journalistic experience?
Not at all! It’s All Sport To Me was born out of the frustrations two people had about gaining experience in sports journalism. Our team includes students, career-switchers, and even seasoned journalists looking to expand their portfolios. Whatever your background, you’re more than welcome to join.
Will I get paid?
As we are a volunteer-led publication, we are unable to offer payment for contributions. However, we do cover certain expenses like travel or accommodation if you’re attending an event or conducting interviews. For content that requires a purchase, like reviewing a sports documentary, film, or book, we will reimburse you for reasonable costs, such as cinema tickets or book purchases. We want to ensure everyone has equal opportunities and no one is financially disadvantaged.
What other perks are available?
Aside from above-mentioned perks, we offer exciting opportunities to attend sporting events as a reporter or spectator, tickets to sports-related talks or award ceremonies, and exclusive interviews with professionals in the media or sports sectors. As part of the team, you’ll also have full access to creative tools like Zoom, Adobe Creative Cloud, and Canva, making sure you have everything you need to create great content.
What kind of content can I produce? Can I suggest my own ideas to the team?
We cover all things sports-related, from news stories and features to match reports, interviews, investigations, and reviews. Whether you’re passionate about a specific sport or want to explore something new, we welcome all ideas. You’re encouraged to pitch your own content, but our editors are also here to help guide you and refine your ideas. For major events like the Olympics or Wimbledon, we hold team discussions to coordinate coverage.
How often do I need to contribute?
There’s no set schedule. You can contribute as much or as little as you like. Some of our writers are regular contributors, while others only write during specific events or tournaments. Whether you’re contributing regularly or taking a break, you’re always welcome back.
What type of roles and positions are in the team?
We’re always looking for people with specific sporting interests to join our team as sports journalists and editors. Editors help generate content ideas, manage a team of writers, and oversee coverage of their chosen sport. We’re also growing our multimedia and social media presence, so if you have a creative edge, we’d love to hear from you too. There’s plenty of room to make your mark.
Can I contribute if I only want to cover one specific sport or event?
While we cover a wide variety of sports, we welcome contributors who are passionate about one specific sport or event. Whether you want to focus on a niche sport, or something off the beaten track or cover a major event like the World Cup, the choice is yours. You’re free to shape your contribution around what excites you most.
Can I work remotely?
Yes! We are a global, remote team, so you can contribute from anywhere in the world. All communication is done online through WhatsApp and Discord channels.
Will I get feedback on my writing?
Yes, our editors are always available to provide feedback and guidance. Whether you’re a seasoned writer or just starting out, we’re here to help you improve your skills and craft engaging, thoughtful pieces, and committed to helping you advance your journalistic career.
Do you offer internships, work experience or college credit?
While we don’t have a formal internship program at the moment, we are open to working with those who want to gain hands-on experience in sports journalism. Reach out to us, and we can discuss how to structure a work experience opportunity that fits your needs.
